Summer Vacation Day

The Decatur Police Department is excited to introduce the Summer Vacation with Decatur PD event this summer for the kids of Decatur. Our program will consist of a full day of fun with members of the Police Department. The first day will be held on July 13th, 2017 for kids age 5 – 6, and on July 14th we will welcome kids ages 7 – 8. The same program will again be held in August on the 10th for 5 and 6 year olds and then on August 11th for 7 and 8 year old kids. This program will be limited to the first 30 kids who apply. We ask that you only apply one time for which ever date is convenient for you.
Parents are welcome to attend with their kids. The day will include arriving at the Decatur Police Department at 8 a.m. with your bicycles, at which time they will get checked out for safety issues. Decatur PD’s mechanic will make sure that all bicycles are working properly. Kids will then spend the first part of the morning getting to know the officers and will be enjoying milk along with donuts, which all police love!!! The rest of the morning will be discussing bicycle safety and making sure that everyone has a helmet. Then a bicycle rodeo will take place at which time kids will demonstrate safe riding techniques. Lunch will be served, which will include hamburgers and hotdogs, right after the bike rodeo. The afternoon will consist of anti-bullying awareness, hands on training with the department’s crime scene specialist, and a scavenger hunt. The day will commence with outdoor water activities so make sure and bring your towels and sun screen. The day’s activities will end at 5 pm each day.
